DHAKA: Senior judge of the Supreme Court's Appellate Division Abdul Wahhab Miah resigned after President Hamid appointed Syed Mahmud Hossain as new CJ on Friday (February 2).

Wahhab Miah sent the resignation letter to President on Friday evening, confirmed several Supreme Court sources. 
 
Justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah, the senior most judge of the appellate division has been performing as Acting CJ after Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha resigned on November 10 last year.

Wahhab Miah was due to retire on 10 November this year.

On Friday afternoon, the president appointed senior SC judge Syed Mahmud Hossain as the 22nd chief justice of Bangladesh. He will take oath on Saturday evening.
