Iran avalanche loss of life toll rises to 11
Three more climbers in Iran own passed away after avalanches struck mountains north of the capital Tehran, bringing the overall toll to 11, the Red Crescent said Sunday.

State news company IRNA said the tragedy started on Fri when avalanches and blizzards reach the mountainous region.

Countless climbers were trapped in the area however the Red Crescent was able to rescue 14 during a three-day procedure led by 20 emergency teams backed by helicopters.

On Saturday rescuers said that they had found the bodies of eight climbers, while on Sunday morning hours it had been announced that another had died.

The bodies of another two were recovered in the Darabad mountains, the Red Crescent said on Sunday, adding that the rescue operation was now over.

Tehran lies at the base of the Alborz mountain selection which stretches across 900 kilometers (almost 560 kilometers) from the border with Azerbaijan found in Iran’s northwest to Khorasan province found in the northeast.

The area is well-known for its various ski resorts and is favored by climbers.
