I am in advance talks to make some Korean remakes
At a time when Bollywood is turning to the South film industry for inspiration and remaking some of their biggest hits, 'Chehre' producer Anand Pandit is training his sight on South Korea. The producer, who has backed several big-ticket Bollywood films, reveals in an exclusive interview with ETimes, that he is currently in talks to remake Korean films.
Speaking about the current trend in Bollywood to remake South films, he says, "I have honestly not thought of any South remakes." However, he did acknowledge the Korean wave sweeping over the country, thanks to the immense popularity of K-dramas and the rise of K-pop stars from BTS to BLACKPINK, TOMORROW X TOGETHER and many others. Unabashed to admit that he too "loves" Korean content, he says, "I have been in some advance talks for some Korean remakes".
While he refuses to divulge any more details of the upcoming projects, he does let us in on his thoughts about the current Korean trend. "There is a reason behind this. The Korean psyche is quite linear with ours. It is cleaner, has family values, emotions, and a little bit of everything. It is almost packaged like an Indian film. They also have better technology and better writing (dialogues) and even the screenplays are good, so I personally like it," he reiterates.
Pandit now joins the list of Bollywood stars navigating Eastward to bring some thrill stories and exciting screenplays to the desi audience. Salman Khan's Eid release 'Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai' was a remake of a Korean film called 'The Outlaws'. Sonam Kapoor, too, is getting ready for the release of her next film that is the Bollywood remake of the 2011 Korean thriller, 'Blind'.
