The historic May Day has been observed today (May 1) in the united states as elsewhere around the world with due respect.

The day is observed across the world annually since 1886 commemorating the supreme sacrifices of the personnel at Hay Market, Chicago, in America for eight-hour working day and upholding the rights of working class. 

Working persons sacrificed their lives on May 1, 1886 and the next days, for realizing their demands, in bomb attacks and heavy police actions. 

President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages on the occasion of the historic May Day.

When the country is observing the day, thousands of workers in both formal and informal sectors are experiencing job cuts and violation of their rights.

Maintaining health regulations, the personnel beneath the banners of different rights organisations took various programmes such as for example street rally and hoisting warning flag at their union offices to mark your day.

In separate messages on the occasion, President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina conveyed greetings to the working persons of Bangladesh and the world.

Ruling Awami League, opposition in the parliament Jatiya Party, and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), in separate statements, greeted the people and urged to the affluent persons to the stand by position the working-class people at this time corona pandemic.

They also needed ensuring their safe and healthy workplace, reasonable wages and decent life.

The day is a public holiday in Bangladesh.
