Highway blocked over Rangpur student’s death
Agitated locals blocked the Dhaka-Dinajpur Highway in protest as a class-X student of Rangpur Collectorate School & College was crushed to death by a speedy bus in Modern area of the city Sunday (August 12).
The deceased was identified as Zeon.
Witnesses said Zeon was heading Darshana area by a bicycle from his mess in Modern intersection area, around 11:30am. A reckless bus hit him, leaving him dead on the spot.
As the news spread, locals turned enraged and started agitation by blocking the highway.
Police went to the scene, to tame the situation, but failed.
At one stage, a chase-counter-chase erupted between the law enforcers and the protesters. Several persons were reported injured.
Dhaka’s road communication to Dinajpur, Panchagarh, Thakurgaon and Nilphamari districts are suspended till filing this report around 2pm as both the policemen and protesters have taken to the street.
