Heavy rains leave 16 dead, 33 missing on SE Brazil
At least 16 people are dead and 33 missing following flooding and mudslides due to heavy rains in southeast Brazil, local authorities said Tuesday.
The coastal cities of Santos, Guaruja and Sao Vicente, which are popular tourism destinations in the state of Sao Paulo, sustained most of the damage.
Two firefighters were killed while trying to rescue citizens of the Morro dos Macacos favela in Guaruja, according to a assertion from the local government.
A lot of the missing are actually residents of another favela, Vila Baiana, where ramshackle properties on the hillside fell aside beneath the force of rain and mud.
Sao Paulo talk about and southeast Brazil on the whole have observed record rainfall in recent weeks.
