Guardiola donates 1m euros to fight virus in Spain
Manchester City mentor Pep Guardiola has donated one particular million euros ($1.08 million) to greatly help buy medical supplies for the fight the coronavirus pandemic in his native Spain.
The former FC Barcelona boss gave the amount of money to the Medical College of Barcelona to get "medical equipment that's currently without health centres in Catalonia," the body said in a statement.
His donation will also be used to create ventilators to take care of patients and protective equipment for health care personnel in Guardiola's northeastern location of Spain.
In the meantime Barcelona's Hospital Clinic said it had received a donation from FC Barcelona captain Lionel Messi to greatly help it fight the virus.
"Many thanks Leo, for your support and determination," the hospital added in a tweet.
While the hospital didn't say how much cash the person donated, Catalan sports daily Mundo Deportivo said it had been one million euros.
With the pandemic spreading around the world, Spain has been among the worst-hit countries, logging the third highest number of deaths with the most recent toll standing at 2,696, and the full total number of infections nearing 40,000.
