Govt working to raise diplomatic mission up to 100
The government is working to increase the number of Bangladesh diplomatic missions abroad to 100 by next year.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working to increase the number of country’s mission abroad to 100 by 2021,” said Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen while responding to a starred question made by Jatiya Party lawmaker Syed Abu Hossain of Dhaka-4 in the House on Sunday, BSS reports.
Now Bangladesh has 77 diplomatic missions in 58 countries across the world.
The ministry has a plan to open more new foreign offices in diplomatically important countries across the world in phases, he said, adding that opening of more six foreign missions has already been approved by the Ministry of Public Administration.
The these countries are Wellington in New Zealand, Dublin in Ireland, Buenos Aires in
Argentina, Guangzhou city in China, Sao Paulo in Brazil and Frankfurt in Germany.
Besides, the minister said the administrative process to launch new missions at Bucharest in Romania and Chennai in India has already been completed, adding that the cabinet has approved the proposal to set up a consulate general in Florida in the USA.
