Govt, media to interact to face coronavirus: Hasan
Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Monday (March 30) said the federal government and media would work together to handle the coronavirus crisis.

The minister made the remarks after a gathering with media owners and editors at his Minto Road residence here.

He said, “We discussed the media’s internal problems emerging from the existing crisis.”

Leaders of Newspaper Owners’ Association of Bangladesh (NOAB), the Editors Guild, Bangladesh, the Association of Television Channel Owners (ATCO) and the Editors Council took part in the meeting.

Editors’ Council president Mahfuz Anam, its general secretary Naem Nizam, ATCO senior vice president Mozammel Babu, its member Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, NOAB president AK Azad and its executive members Motiur Rahman and Tarique Sujat were, among others, attended the meeting.

Dr Hasan Mahmud, also the Awami League joint general secretary, said various rumours are being spread over the coronavirus, although some online news portals are creating panic among the people by releasing fake news items.

“We've sought cooperation from the mainstream media in this regard,” he said.

Various problems have already been created in newspapers and television channels during the coronavirus crisis as circulations of several newspapers declined drastically, the information minister added.
