Gold bars in charge light; Chinese national held
Customs officers detained a Chinese citizen along with 24 gold bars at Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport on Wednesday morning.
The Chinese national, Fan Rangui, came to Chattogram from Dubai by a Biman flight around 7:10 am.
The gold, weighing 2.8 kilograms, is worth around Tk 1.15crore, said the customs deputy commissioner Nur Uddin Milon, reports a Bangla newspaper
The customs official said the detainee smuggled the gold into the country concealing these into a charge light.
After detecting presence of something during scanning, the customs officials broke the light and recovered 24 gold bars from inside of the device.
The detainee came to Bangladesh 43 times since 2018 from different countries, customs official Nur Uddin added.
