Free flow of information in Bangladesh: Speaker
Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said Bangladesh was experiencing an unprecedented time for free flow of information as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina facilitated media.
She said: “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has encouraged online, print and electronic media. As a result, access to information has increased with availability of ICT.”
The Speaker was addressing a discussion arranged at the media centre of the Jatiya Sangsad marking the second anniversary of online news portal parliamentnewsbd.com on Monday (September 30).
“The objective news run by media can strengthen democracy. There is no alternative to thriving media for strengthening the democracy as the media plays an important role in forming public opinion,” Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury also said.
Online portals are very useful for getting information across quickly and easily. parliamentnewsbd.com is contributing to the consolidation of practice of parliamentary democracy, she added.
