Four-day Int’l Plastic Fair begins January 31

The four-day 13th International Plastic Fair 2018 (IPF-18) will begin on January 31 at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Dahka.

The fair will display latest technology, machinery, colours and additives for the plastics industry under a single roof.

Bangladesh Plastic Goods Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BPGMEA) President Md Jashim Uddin announced the fair at a press briefing in Dhaka’s Paltan on Monday.

Organizations from 14 countries around the globe will participate in this year’s fair.

BPGMEA President Md Jashim Uddin said: “About 70% of the products being used in the daily lives of the people in country are plastic.

“Plastic products are now being used instead of wood and iron. Its use could increase in future.”

Replying to queries, he said: “I believe that plastic products are harmful for environment, but it can never cause damage if the waste is managed properly, and people are made aware of it.

He added: “A USA citizen uses around 100kg of plastic goods in a year, but there is no environmental damage because of good waste management. So, we have to be conscious about this.”

Judy Wang, president of Yorker Trade & Marketing Service Co Ltd, BPGMEA former presidents ASM Kamal Uddin, Md Yeusuf Afraf, Ferdous Wahid, Samim Ahmed, Senior Vice-President Giasuddin Ahmed, directors Hazi Abdul Mannan, Md Shajhan, Mehedi Hasan Titpu among others were present at the briefing.

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed is expected to inaugurate the fair on Wednesday.

Prime minister’s Private Sector Development Affairs Adviser Salman F Rahman, chief coordinator on Sustainable Development Goals Abul Kalam Azad, FBCCI President Md Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin, among the others will also be present in the inaugural program.

Prime minister’s Economic Affairs Adviser Dr Moshiur Rahman is expected to be present at the concluding ceremony as the chief guest.
