Former FIFA referee Abdul Aziz died of coronary attack on Tuesday afternoon while he was undergoing treatment at BIRDEM Hospital in Dhaka. He was 68.

He left out his wife and three daughters to mourn his death.

Abdul Aziz was admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital on October 12 last after a heart attack. Later, he left a healthcare facility after feeling well. But, after several days he was admitted to BIRDEM with breathing issues where he was tested coronavirus positive. He had also been experiencing kidney ailments. It might not be possible to save him after his second coronary attack on Tuesday afternoon.

His second daughter Maksuda Aziz said her father had been at the BIRDEM ICU for more than a week where he died on Tuesday. "We'll bury him at Banani Graveyard," she said.

Abdul Aziz started his referee career as an assistant referee in 1974. He became FIFA referee at age 28. He was the first Bangladesh referee who got FIFA badge at a younger age. He got the possibility to conduct 28 international football matches in his career. Besides, he conducted a lot more than 300 football matches locally. He previously a great reputation of strictly conducting the football matches in the field.

He also enrolled as coach of Agrani Bank Club and Eskaton Sabuj Sangha and guided the Agrani Bank team to Premier Division League from First  Division as coach.
