'FagunHaway' screened at Rainbow Film Fest
The 20th edition of Rainbow Film Festival in London, UK is organized differently from previous ones. This time it began with the screening of Tauquir Ahmed's language movement film 'FagunHaway' At the Genesis Cinema hall on London's Mile End Rd, on Sunday.
The festival is featuring more than 30 films from various countries including the UK, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Turkey, Iran, Norway, Jordan, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Greece and Belgium. 'FagunHaway' charts and delineates the language movement of 1952.
To show the movement, the film does not focus on Dhaka, the center of the movement, but shows how people of a small town, Khulna, engaged themselves in the movement. Actress Nusrat Imrose Tisha plays the lead role opposite Siam in the film.
Renowned actors Abul Hayat, Fazlur Rahman Babu, Shahidul Alam Sachchu, Ronak Hasan, Faruque Ahmed, Saju Khadem and Shahadat Hossain have also acted in the film. The film has been produced by Impress Telefilm ltd. It is inspired by Tito Rahman's language movement-based short story 'Bau Katha Kao'.
The festival, which is featuring film screening, discussion, seminar and others, will feature other Bangladeshi films namely 'Alta Banu', 'See You', 'Komla Rocket', 'SanatanGolpo', 'Amar Jonmobhumi', 'To Be Continued', 'Juddhota Chilo Swadhinatar', 'Glimpse of Dhaka', 'Jibon O Jibika', 'Nona JolerMeyeti' and 'Odekha Das'.Besides, the festival will feature Indian Bengali films namely 'Ashukhwala', 'Rong BerongEr Kori', 'Uma', 'Ek Je Chilo Raja', 'Pupa' and 'Bhoy O Bhager'.
Rainbow Film Society was founded on December 16, 1991 with the motto 'Better Film, Better Audience and Better Society'.The organization has been promoting Bangladeshi films by organizing film workshops, film screenings and more. It has been organizing Rainbow Film Festival since 2000.The festival will continue till July 28.
