EU to assist Bangladesh in protecting human rights
Law Minister Anisul Huq said the European Union (EU) is ready to assist Bangladesh in protecting human rights and labor rights.

“The EU was satisfied with the steps taken in Bangladesh to protect workers' rights. But they today have discussed how to institutionalize labor rights in our country” he also said.

The law minister was talking to media after a meeting with the European Union delegation at his office at the Secretariat on Wednesday (October 16).

Anisul Huq said that the European Union has told him that Bangladesh is a role model of development throughout the world. They want to discuss with Bangladesh about human rights and labor rights.

Besides, the European Union is ready to assist Bangladesh in these two matters, he added.

The minister said, "I have kept many of the commitments I had made in the past regarding the labor rights. Today, they acknowledged the reality. The EU wants to discuss how we can make further progress in this regard. “

“They have discussed how labor rights to be institutionalized in our country. That's why we want to know what the EU wants. We will also tell you what plans we have taken and implemented.”

"We have informed the EU that we are very aware of human rights. It is the responsibility of the government to protect it. The government is fully performing that responsibility” he said.

For example, I have said that the people demanded a speedy trial of the Nusrat murder case and the government was also committed for that. In this case, we have finished all the legal procedures. As a result, the case will be decided in the Trial Court on October 24.
