Ensure fair prices of paddy: B Chy
President of Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh (BDB) Prof AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury on Monday urged the government to ensure fair prices of paddy, even by providing subsidy if necessary.
"Farmers play an outstanding role in developing the country. So, they must be kept alive in the interest of the country and its development," he said, UNB reports.
Speaking at an iftar party, B Chowdhury also said comprehensive steps will have to be taken to save the farmers instead of showing any excuse. "The government must procure paddy directly from farmers."
Swechchhasebak Dhara, an associate body of BDB, arranged the event at a city hotel.
B Chowdhury, also a former president, said the government can keep the paddy at framers' warehouses by paying them half the prices of the crop if there is shortage of government silos. "The rest money can be paid when the paddy will be brought to the government silos from farmers."
He also said the government can rent the private food warehouses to tackle the current situation.
