Encouraging operators never to use Huawei for 5G, France cybersecurity head says
China’s Huawei isn't entirely banned from France’s next-generation 5G wireless marketplace, but French operators with them is only going to get limited licences, the head of the nationwide cybersecurity company told Les Echos newspaper Sunday.
The comments were the latest advancement in the controversy above Huawei’s involvement, after several Western nations barred the company from participation within their 5G networks more than security fears.
“The operators who don’t use Huawei, we inspire them never to go that way because it’s sort of by natural means of things,” said Guillaume Poupard, the top of France’s national cybersecurity agency ANSSI.
“For those who already are using it, we issue permits that previous between three and eight years,” he told Les Echos.
Those restrictions will probably limit Huawei’s access to France’s 5G network.
Huawei has invested billions of dollars found in the technology, competing mainly against Sweden’s Ericsson and Finland’s Nokia.
But the USA, Britain and other countries have explained Huawei represents a risk of security, not least since its founder Ren Zhengfei is a former People’s Liberation Army engineer.
Huawei has said it will grab of partnerships with any hostile countries and give attention to working with countries where they are welcome.
