Ekushey Padak winner Majibar Rahman Debdas passes away
Ekushey Padak winner freedom fighter Majibar Rhaman Debdas has died of later years complications. He was 90.

Majibar Rahman, a professor of Mathematics Department of Rajshahi University, breathed his last at about 4:00 am on Monday at his village home in Sadar upazila of Joypurhat district. 

A good contingent of police, led by UNO Milton Chandra Roy, gave him guard of honour prior to the burial.

Later, he was buried at the family graveyards at his village home

Majibar Rahman changed his name to Majbar Rahman Debdas during the War of Liberation in 1971 in protest against the 
Pakistan military when persons of Hidnu community had started changing their names to save lots of their lives from the wrath of Pakistan Army.

He previously been severely tortured by the Pakistani occupation force at Zoha Hall of the university and, later, at Pabna and Natore jail. He lost his mental balance because of the torture. 

He was sent to Pabna Mental Hospital following the liberation war and since that time, he remained unremembered. 

However, the university authorities gave him a reception in 1998. 

Majibar was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2015 as recognition of his contribution through the Liberation War.
