'Egypt wants to invest in Bangladesh’s power sector'
Egypt is highly interested to invest in power sector and establish a cable factory in Bangladesh.
 
Newly appointed Egyptian Ambassador to Bangladesh Walid Ahmed Shamseldin said this when met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her office on Thursday.
 
The Prime Minister told the new envoy that Bangladesh will welcome Egyptian investment as the government is ready to allocate lands in special economic zones for Egyptian investors.
 
Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meeting saying that various bilateral issues, including the Rohingya crisis, came up for discussions at the meeting.
 
Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh has given shelter to the displaced Rohingya nationals of Myanmar on just humanitarian ground, but want them to go back home. 
 
She said Bangladesh is in talks with Myanmar and other stakeholders to resolve the crisis, but Myanmar is not working according to the agreement signed with it. 

Pointing at the problems the Rohingyas facing in congested shelter camps in Cox's Bazar, Hasina said her government is now preparing an area for the relocation of 1,00,000 Rohingyas there.
 
The Prime Minister said Bangladesh attaches great importance to its relationship with Egypt as it is one of the first Arab countries that recognised Bangladesh in 1973.
 
She mentioned the first historic visit of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to Egypt took place in November 1974 saying the visit laid the foundation of deep relations between the two countries. 
 
Hasina also recalled her visit to Egypt in 2009 to attend the Non Aligned Movement (NAM) summit.
 
The new Egyptian envoy praised the Prime Minister's role in combating terrorism and drugs. 
 
About bilateral ties, he said he will work for further strengthening the relations and cooperation between the two countries. 
 
Walid Ahmed stressed promoting cultural ties between the two countries and said he has already met Bangladesh's Cultural Affairs Minister.
 
The Prime Minister assured the envoy of giving all-out cooperation in discharging his duties in Bangladesh. 
 
Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office Md Nojibur Rahman was present at the meeting.
