Doctors allege police harassment in lockdown
Two doctors on Wednesday alleged that they truly became the victims of police harassment during the stricter lockdown found in the capital.

They alleged on the Facebook pages that that they had faced harassment if they were going to their working areas during the lockdown. They also had to pay the fines.

Dr Krishna Halder, among the doctors, said she actually is a medical officer at Kuwait-Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital. The other doctor works at a medical center at Panthapath in the capital.

In her Facebook content, Dr Krishna Halder writes: "I had night-shift duty at Kuwait-Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital on Tuesday night. My private car driver picked me up each day. When I was going home, police stopped my car at Karwan Bazar transmission. In spite of showing my identity card, police filed a case against me, fined me and took away all the records of my car. Later, I went Tejgaon police station and Traffic Police office, but didn't receive any cooperation from anyone there. I couldn't collect my 'Movement Pass.' In such a situation, it has become almost unattainable for me to wait my COVID-19 duty."

Another female physician, Dr Ishrat Jahan, in addition has made the same allegation on her behalf Facebook page. She alleged that her physician husband, Dr Nazmul Islam, became the victim of police harassment on his way to his hospital and he was fined Tk 3,000.

The female doctor writes on her behalf Facebook page: "My hubby Dr Nazmul Islam works at the COVID Unit of Square Hospital at Panthapath. He was scheduled to attend his duty at 8:00am. My father-in-law has been infected with COVID-19 and taking treatment residing at our village home in Munshiganj. My husband has been attending his duty boarding his private car from Munshiganj over the last few days. But, on Wednesday morning, police intercepted his car at Signboard area and fined him Tk 3,000. In those days, my hubby was carrying his identity card. But, police didn't pay any heed despite showing them the ID card."
