Dhaka Live Art Biennale kicks off
Dhaka Live Art Biennale (D'LAB) kicked off on January 21 on a high note with an aim to turn art into a social practice.The biennial event began in 2017. The international event, organized by Back ART Foundation, has returned this year to serve as a platform for both artists and art lovers, so that they can be a part of the global artistic community.
More than 100 artists from 24 countries, including Bangladesh, Brazil, China, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Nepal, the Netherlands, Norway, Pakistan, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sri Lanka, USA, UK and Vietnam, were expected to participate in the biennale.
The art festival is being held at several venues around the Dhaka University campus, including Zainul Gallery, swimming pool area, Curzon Hall and Suhrawardy Udyan, as well as Beauty Boarding and Ruplal House in Old Dhaka.
The country's first performance-based international live art festival has experimental theatre performances, voice art, action-based art, experimental movement in dance, and other forms of performance arts for the visitors.As a part of the art biennale, a discussion session was held on January 26 at the Goethe Institute in Dhaka. Another seminar and a four-day workshop will take place at the same venue from February 8-12.
On February 6, there will be live presentations of traditional practices, such as gajir poter gaan, saap khela, Behular bhashan, circus, putul nach and many more, by local artistes. The 25-day art extravaganza will continue till February 14. Dhaka-based non-profit organization Back ART works on bringing back native art to the contemporary art scene. Since 2013, the organization has arranged many art projects at home and abroad.
