Dhaka hotels bear the brunt of pandemic
Business for hotels in the capital was sluggish during the July-December amount of 2020-21 due to there were fewer occasions and programmes and a lower presence of guests.

But those situated in places referred to for tourism continued to look at higher profits thanks to people continuing to visit those areas.

Among four stated hotels, a year-on-year upsurge in the profit was marked by the ocean Pearl Beach Resort & Spa, the owing service of the Royal Tulip Sea Pearl Beach Resort & Spa and The Peninsula Chittagong.

Meanwhile Dhaka-based the initial Hotel & Resorts, the owning firm of The Westin Dhaka, and Bangladesh Services, the owning company of Hotel InterContinental Dhaka, incurred losses whereas both had earlier experienced profits.

"We were impacted initially but now we bounced again," said Md Alamgir, managing director of Hotels International, the owing organization of Pan Pacific Sonargaon, Dhaka.

"Our hotel was closed for three months till June 8 according to the government's direction as a result we incurred loss for the reason that period," he said.

"We began to book benefit from October and it became enhanced in December, which is higher in today's month," said Alamgir, also yet another secretary to the government.

"We are presenting some promotional offers you for bazar shop, saloon, pool, laundry and food to attract persons," he said.

"As there are always a limited number of foreign guests as a result we are focusing on local friends," he said.

Responding to a concern, he said numerous events like marriage ceremony and government programmes experienced reduced however now those were starting to be organised.

Hotels located in the administrative centre faced a bigger effects as opposed to those found in places visited by travelers, said Azaharul Mamun, organization secretary to the ocean Pearl.

This is because persons who were confined to their homes started visiting places when the general leave was withdrawn, producing a higher number of guests in hotels found in Cox's Bazar and Sylhet, he said.

As people's moves were limited to their homes for an extended period, they immediately took the possibility to go out for leisure, he said.

"When the united states was under a good lockdown for two months, we improved our hotels' safety materials with contemporary amenities to make sure our friends' safety from the pathogen," he said.

"We ran our marketing activities focusing the safety measures…and it had an impact on our efficiency," Mamun said.

Profits of the Sea Pearl doubled to Tk 7.29 crore.

"Our building isn't a concise building but one which ensures fresh air so persons had confidence on us," he said.

"Alternatively, our hotel is away from the ocean beach so people think our resort is safer," he explained.

Mohammad Nurul Azim, company secretary to the Penninsula, said the Chattogram-based hotel registered more sales of foods due to a demand for hygiene from the well-off and middle-class on the port city.

"Our overhead cost also declined. Our directors stopped acquiring remuneration from July this past year amid the pandemic. The necessity for casual staff as well declined and we retain them under an on call basis," he said.

"We also got organization travelers from Dhaka and other areas," he said.
