Demo in Shahbagh for 30% FF quota restoration
A group of protesters took to the streets demanding 30 percent quota restoration for the family members of Freedom Fighters, in public service government jobs.
The protesters, under the banner of ‘Muktijoddha Sangsad Sontan Command’ (a unity of Freedom Fighters’ children), have blocked the Shahbagh intersection Thursday (Oct 4).
They have announced to continue the demonstration, until the demand is met.
The demonstration has resulted in immense traffic congestion in major parts of the city.
Muktijoddha Sangsad Sontan Command President Sheikh Atiqur Babu said a rally will be held at Shahbagh if the authority concerned doesn’t take any step to meet the demand.
The protesters were heard chanting slogans seeking restoration of 30 percent quota in government jobs, for the family members of Freedom Fighters.
However, they started gathering in Shahbagh hours after the cabinet approving a recommendation for abolishing the quota system for 1st and 2nd class (9th and 13th grades) jobs in civil service Wednesday (Oct 3). Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina chaired the cabinet meeting.
