Corona situation to worsen in April, large number of deaths likely

Bangladesh's coronavirus situation might take a serious turn at the beginning of April, said Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon on Sunday. 

According to the mayor, Bangladesh expatriates have created a background for a huge number of deaths by moving freely in the united states after their return from abroad. "It had been a grave mistake so they can move freely after coming to Bangladesh," he said.

Khokon was speaking at a crisis meeting of a committee that was constituted to contain coronavirus at the DSCC areas. The meeting happened at the conference room of the lender Floor of Nagar Bhaban in the afternoon. 

Mayor Sayeed Khokon said after talking with local and foreign authorities about the overall coronavirus situation, I acquired the impression that the country's situation might be worsened at the beginning of April. "So, we should take preparations to interact to handle this disastrous situation giving it highest priority."

The mayor said he felt the necessity of constituting a powerful committee after reviewing the entire situation to manage the coronavirus issue in the Dhaka city.

The DSCC mayor also opined a database needed to be developed collecting info on the coronavirus infected persons. Besides, the intelligence agencies could play an effective role keeping them on regular vigilance. 

He also said it is becoming essential for a healthcare facility directors to sit with the representatives of different agencies to guarantee the treatment facilities for ordinary patients at hospitals and do something so that others are not infected with corona patients. 

Chaired by DSCC mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon, the meeting was attended by DSCC's ceo Shah Md Imdadul Huq, chief health officer Brigadier General Sharif Ahmed, Dhaka's deputy civil surgeon, representatives from the district administration, police administration and the department of social welfare, and regional executive officers of different regions of the DSCC.
