Climate based 3D animation short film Tomorrow got appreciation in Cannes
Bangladeshi animation movie Tomorrow achieved the dignity of being the best-animated film of August at the Cannes World Film Festival. Although the name of the show is very similar to the famous Cannes Film Festival of Palm D'Or, it is a completely different show. But the main purpose of the two festivals is the same - Appreciating young filmmakers in the film world based on innovation and quality. In addition to knowing about this festival, this feature aims to talk about the behind-the-scenes of Tomorrow. Ratul, a young boy, lives with his father in a beautiful house near the beach in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh. Game-loving Ratul is surprised to see his father's love for nature and biodiversity, reports the UNB.
One night Ratul met an old wind man in a dream, who showed him two different forms of the future. In one future, Ratul sees the catastrophic condition of the earth due to misuse of natural resources; while the other future shows the outline of a self-reliant Bangladesh using renewable energy instead of fossil fuels.
The story of 'Tomorrow' advances with such a mesmerizing screenplay. Throughout the film, Ratul is portrayed as a representative of the younger generation. Through the character of the old man, the film raises concern about the environment. The adverse climate represents the consequences of human activities against nature. The short animated film with a rating of 9.4 out of 10 by 221 IMDB users has already received a lot of appreciation from movie critics.
The short film promotes positivity by wonderfully focusing on building a beautiful world over the horrors of climate change. That is why American journalist and environmentalist Bill McKibben praised the movie on Twitter.
This outstanding 3D movie is directed by Bangladeshi animator Mohammad Shihab Uddin. This multi-talented young movie maker played versatile roles as character designer, creative consultant, and visual developer.
The movie, produced by Kazi Media Limited of Kazi Zahin Hasan and Kazi Zeeshan Hasan, was released on November 29, 2019, on Deepto TV. Cycore Studios has supervised the production and animation of the short film scripted by Ahmed Khan Hirok and Nasimul Hasan.
Voice-over artists have enlivened computer-generated characters with their voices. Deepak Kumar Goswami was in the role of 'Old Wind Man' which basically is a mere reflection of the ghost of Christmas Carol.
Eashan Abdullah gave the voice of the younger Ratul while Mohammad Morshed Siddique played the role of the elder Ratul. Raju Ahmed has given a voice-over to Ratul's father. Tom Freeman voiced the role of the foreign journalist. And Mohammad Bari gave the overall background voice. Sajib Roy, Albino George Pike, Rafiqul Islam, and Shafiqul Islam have given voice to the characters of the villagers.
Carolina Bomba, a visionary founder of the Cannes World Film Festival, started the program in the second lockdown of the Corona epidemic in 2020 in the French Riviera.
The competitive festival covers almost all branches of entertainment. First, they select a winner every month. The winners of each month will eventually take part in the annual competition. At the end of the year, the winning films in each category will receive honorary trophies. The film will also be shown at the World's Capital of Cinema in Cannes.
The film 'Tomorrow' has passed the first selection. The animated movie has already been included in every online site of the Cannes World Film Festival. In this festival, the Tomorrow team will be awarded a digital certificate. And, this achievement will be incorporated into the IMDB.
The jury of the festival has been formed with 6 judges from different branches of the entertainment world including the movie industry. Having no affiliation with participating movies, the judges will independently select the best movies in different categories.
The Cannes World Film Festival's annual awards ceremony will be unveiled in 2022 at the White House, a luxury villa in Cannes. Here, the name of a movie in each category will be announced from the winning movies for twelve months.
Climate change has been an important issue for all time. Small and large organizations have been formed at different times to save the world from the greenhouse effect. Even then, the condition of the world is getting worse day by day. It is becoming impossible to stop the deterioration of the biodiversity situation due to a lack of awareness from people of all walks of life.
With the development of technology, the means of communication are becoming more and more accessible to people. So, film can be a great way to create awareness among the people. In other words, awareness can be made more dynamic, if presented through the guise of entertainment.
The short film Tomorrow will show the new generation that to make earth livable, one must be conscious about the environment and act accordingly. Thus, the animated film will participate in the course of saving nature. Previously, the popular animated movies like Ice Age and Happy Feet have done a similar job.
Bangladesh is still in the stage of making 3D animated movies. In the realm of TV commercials and short videos, several good productions have won the hearts of the audiences. But the movie industry in Bangladesh demands more creative works in 3D animation to flourish. In that sense, the short animated film Tomorrow has set a milestone.
Not to mention, making 3D animated movies is an arduous task. Besides the necessity of adequate technical knowledge, Time constraint is another big challenge to prepare 3D animation films. The good news is, the animation genre has a big market in the film world and its acceptance to the audience is huge. Therefore, production houses should invest heavily in producing quality animated movies featuring innovative ideas and creative screenplays.
Overall, the Tomorrow Animated film is a blessing for Bangladesh from two respects. First, Bangladesh got a world-class 3D animated movie. Next, a suitable communication element was created to spread awareness regarding climate change. It is expected that the success of Tomorrow film will encourage more talented Bangladeshi animators to make 3D movies. At the same time, the new generation will grow up with an awareness of the environment, climate change and biodiversity.
