Class-IX girl ‘commits suicide’ in Dhaka
A class-IX girl has committed suicide by hanging herself at her residence in Bagicha area of Dhaka’s Shahjahanpur Sunday (Jan 20) evening, claimed family members.
The deceased was identified as Shanta Akter, 15.
She studied at a school in Khilgaon.
Deceased’s brother Shakil told Banglanews that Shanta locked the room from inside after returning home in the evening.
She was found hanging with a scarf after breaking the door as there was no response for a long time and calling her, he added.
She was rescued and taken to Shahjahanpur Islami Bank Hospital and afterwards shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
On-duty physician at DMCH pronounced her dead around 7pm.
“Why Shanta has committed we can’t realize,” the brother said further.
The body was taken to the morgue for an autopsy, said DMCH Police Outpost Sub-Inspector (SI) Bacchu Mia.
