Clash halts traffic on Dhaka-Ctg highway for 3 hours
Traffic on Dhaka-Chattogram highway remained halted for about three hours as a fierce clash broke out between two groups over establishing supremacy at Madanpur area of Narayanganj on Sunday.
Quoting witnesses' police said Khalil Member, member of ward no 5 of Madanpur union parishad and Amir group had been at loggerheads over establishing supremacy in the area, reports UNB.
Some supporters of Amir group swooped on Khalil and stabbed him while he was sitting at a poultry feed shop in the area at noon, leaving him injured.
When the news spread, the supporters of Khalil member announced the matter through loudspeaker. Later, they attacked the houses of the supporters of Amir group and set fire to Nabi Market.
They also put up a barricade on Dhaka-Chattogram highway by torching tyre, halting traffic movement on the busy highway. At one stage, the supporters of Amir group equipped with lethal weapons attacked the supporters of Khalil group, triggering a clash and turning the whole area into a battle field.
When police went to the spot to bring the situation under control they hurled brickbats towards police, forcing the law enforcers to fire rubber bullets, leaving 50 people injured.
At one stage, police along with Rab personnel dispersed them and brought the situation under control.
Additional police were deployed in the area to avert further trouble.
