Banglalink’s earnings up 2.4pc on Q4
Banglalink, the third-largest cellular phone operator in conditions of subscribers, said its revenue rose 2.4 per cent year-on-year to Tk 1,140 crore in the October-December quarter as a result of massive growth in data revenue.

"Because of our employees' dedicated work and constant support of our customers and companions, we succeeded in maintaining the effectiveness despite hurdles caused by several unprecedented conditions," said Erik Aas, ceo of the operator, in a press release.

Banglalink said it maintained a reasonable performance found in 2020. It submitted a 22.1 % year-on-year growth in earnings from mobile data use in the fourth quarter.

"Apart from our efforts, the impressive economic turnaround of the country and customers' developing reliance on digital offerings contributed to our performance," said Aas.

Despite higher revenue growth in the fourth one fourth, Banglalink's annual earnings grew 0.7 % year-on-year to Tk 4,560 crore in 2020.

The business said its major achievement in 2020 originated from providing internet service across the country.  "Despite the surge in data demand over summer and winter, we're able to serve our customers because of appropriate utilisation of our spectrum and the launch of impressive digital services and different technological developments," Aas said.

The operator said it delivered solid results for the second consecutive quarter regardless of the coronavirus pandemic.

Average income per user rose 3.5 per cent year-on-year to Tk 112 in the October-December period.

Expense optimisation initiatives contributed to the improvement in the earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation, it said. With 3.36 crore mobile phone subscribers, the operator explained its continued travel to improve 4G network supported 5.7 % growth in data customers.
