Bangladeshi scientist awarded in Saudi Arabia
A Bangladeshi scientist has been awarded in Saudi Arabia on Monday for his research work on computer science and engineering. 

The scientist, Mohammad Shamim Hossain, received the ‘Research Quality Award’ along with twenty-three other scientists in the eighth session of ‘Scientific Excellence award 2019’ giving ceremony at famous ‘King Saud University.

Capital Riyadh’s governor Prince Faisal Bin Bandar Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud awarded the winners as chief guest of the ceremony.

Shamim, a professor of Software Engineering of King Saud University’s Computer and Information Science College achieved the honor in second prize category.

He graduated in Computer Science and Engineering from Khulna University, Bangladesh in 1995 and achieved his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Ottawa University of Canada in 2009.

His research interests include Cloud networking, smart environment (smart city, smart health), social media, edge computing and multimedia for healthcare, deep learning approach for multimedia processing and multimedia big data. He has authored and coauthored around 210 publications including refereed IEEE/ACM/Springer/ Elsevier journals, conference papers, books, and book chapters.

Recently, his publications have been recognized as the ESI Highly Cited Papers. He has served as a member of the organizing and technical committees of several international conferences and workshops.

Currently, he serves as a founding co-chair of the IEEE ICME workshop on Multimedia Services and Tools for smart-health MUST-SH 2019.

Bangladesh’s pride Mohammad Shamim Hossain was born in an eminent family in Gopalganj. His father S M Habibullah is a retired professor of Gopalganj Govt. Bangabandhu College.

Previously another Bangladeshi origin Dr. Rezaul Karim was given such honor in ‘Invention, Invention and Technology Licensing’ from the same university.
