Bangladesh to get its first U-19 Women’s cricket team
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Sunday confirmed that they are going to form their first-ever Under-19 Women’s team ahead of the ICC Under-19 Women’s World Cup in 2021 which will be hosted by Bangladesh.
The BCB is set to launch a new tournament ‘Under-18 Women’s National Cricket League’ to select the players. It will be held in Mymensingh from November 7 and eight divisional teams will participate.
Apart from the national team, A team and emerging team, Bangladesh has no women’s age-group team.
BCB Director Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel, also chairman of its women wing, said they will bring the top players of this event under BCB training camp to form the U-19 team within the next five months.
As per the guidelines of the International Cricket Council, BCB has to form an Under-19 Women’s team within September 2020 in order to participate in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2021.
“I’ve spoken to every divisional coach and secretary. We’ll bring the most talented cricketers to our camp and train them to form our Under-19 Women’s team,” Shafiul told the media.
