ASI jailed for demanding bribe from HC judges’ family
A Dhaka court on Thursday sentenced a suspended assistant sub inspector (ASI) of police’s Special Branch (SB) to two-year imprisonment for demanding bribe from the family members of a High Court judge.
Dhaka 9th special judge Sheikh Hafizur Rahman passed the order in presence of Sadekul Islam and sent to jail, reports BSS.
According to the case documents, ASI Sadekul Islam on August 23, 2016, went to the home of Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman of High Court Division for verifying the passport documents of his daughters. The corrupt policeman then demanded Taka two thousand from the wife of the judge for the work.
A case was filed in this regard on August 31 with Shahbagh Police Station against Sadekul.
The Anti-Corruption Commission on May 4, 2017, filed charge sheet against Sadekul.
The court later recorded depositions of four witnesses and came up with the judgment today.
