Anthony Mackie closes deal to star in Marvel's 'Captain America 4'
Anthony Mackie will officially suit up and take flight as the new Captain America in Marvel Studios' upcoming 'Captain America 4' movie.

According to reports, the actor closed his deal with Marvel for the fourth instalment of the superhero franchise. This confirmation comes months after the actor took up the shield and embraced the title of Captain America in the hit series 'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier'.

According to Deadline, the film will be written by Malcolm Spellman, along with Dalan Musson.

Mackie made his first appearance as Sam Wilson

, aka the Falcon in 2014's 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier', starring Chris Evans

and Scarlett Johansson

in the lead. He has since reprised the role in five subsequent movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His role as the next Captain America was confirmed after the events of 'Avengers

: Endgame' when Evans' Steve Rogers

passed on his shield to Mackie's Wilson.

While the fourth film is currently in the works, it is still unclear if Sebastian Stan will return as the Winter Soldier. While this movie is said to be a star vehicle for Anthony to shine, it is not believed to be the top-secret project tipped to bring back Chris Evans back in action.

Meanwhile, a director and the supporting cast have yet to be finalised for Mackie's film.

Given Marvel's packed release calendar, it was reported that 'Captain America 4', which only hit theatres in 2023, at the earliest.

Marvel already has a long lineup of films gearing up for their release this year which include, 'Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings', 'Eternals' and 'Spider-Man: No Way Home'.

The studio has also lined up films like 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness', 'Thor: Love and Thunder', 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever' and the 'Captain Marvel' sequel 'The Marvels' set for their releases in 2022.
