Anik not beaten in jail
Home Ministry said Anik Sarkar Apu, one of the key accused in BUET student Abrar Fahad murder case, was not beaten by prisoners or jail guards in prison.
A piece of news circulated in news media two days ago that Anik Sarkar Apu was beaten in jail.
A press release, signed by public relations officer of Ministry of Home Affairs issued on Tuesday (October 15), said this news had caught attention of authorities of the home ministry and jail.
Brigadier General A K M Mostafa Kamal Pasha, the Inspector General (IG) of Prisons, said: “After arresting Anik Sarkar Apu, he was kept in prison cell of Dhaka Central Jail conforming to legal procedure. Anik was not physically hurt or abused by any of the prisoners or jail guards in prison.”
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Atiqul Islam recorded Anik’s confessional statement under section 164 on Saturday (October 12).
Abrar Fahad, aged 21, a student of electrical and electronic engineering department at BUET, was tortured to death reportedly by BCL leaders at Sher-e-Bangla Hall of the university on October 7.
He was found dead on the staircase of the dormitory early Monday.
The deceased’s father filed the case with Chawkbazar Police Station.
