'Amphan' to cross Sundarbans coast today changing direction
Super cyclone 'Amphan' is likely to cross the West Bengal-Bangladesh coast near to the Sundarbans this (Wednesday afternoon) changing its direction.

It was stated in a particular weather bulletin issued by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) on Tuesday night.

Super cyclone 'Amphan' over west central Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas has moved northwestwards and lies over the same area.

The bulletin said that the cyclone was centred at 6:00pm on Tuesday about 775km of southwest of Chattogram Port, 730km southwest of Cox's Bazar Port, 660km south-southwest of Mongla Port and 650km south-southwest of Payra Port.

The cyclone Amphan will probably move around in a northeasterly direction and may cross Bangladesh coast along the Sundarbans between Khulna and Chattogram during Wednesday afternoon or evening.

Maximum sustained wind speed within 85km of the cyclone shelter is approximately 200kph rising to 220kph in gusts or squalls. Sea will stay very high close to the cyclone centre.

Maritime ports of Mongla and Payra have already been advised to keep hoisted danger signal # 7 7 (seven).

Eleven coastal districts of Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Jhalakathu, Pirojpur, Barguna, Patuakhali, Bhola, Barishal, Laxmipur, Chandpur and their offshore islands and chars should come under danger signal # 7 7 (seven).

Maritime ports of Chattogram and Cox's Bazar have already been advised to keep hoisted danger signal number 6 6 (six). Coastal districts of Noakhali, Feni, Chattogram and Cox's Bazar and their offshore islands and chars should come under danger signal number 6 6 (six).

Storm surge warning: Under the influence of the cyclone and the brand new moon phase, the low-lying regions of coastal districts of Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Jhalakathi, Pirojpur, Barguna, Patuakhali, Bhola, Barishal, Laxmipur, Chandpur, Noakhali, Feni, Chattogram and their offshore islands and chars will tend to be inundated by storm surge of 5-10 feet height above normal astronomical tide.

The coastal districts of Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Jhalakathi, Pirojpur, Barguna, Patuakhali, Bhola, Barishal, Laxmipur, Chandpur, Noakhali, Feni, Chattogram and their offshore islands and chars are likely to experience wind increase to 140-160kph in gusts or squalls with heavy to heavy falls through the passing of the cyclone.

All fishing boats and trawlers over north Bay and deep sea have already been advised to take shelter immediately and stay in shelter till further notice.
