ADB to give $540ml for human resource development 
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide Bangladesh  US$ 540 million dollars as concessional loans for skilled human resource development in tertiary education sector.

Sungsup Roy, director of Human and Social Development Division of ADB, came up with the information when a-six member ADB delegation led by him called on University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman Prof Dr Kazi Shahidullah at the commission office in the capital on Tuesday (Dec 10).

According to Roy, ADB will give US$ 100 million for improving computer and software engineering,  US$ 150 million for advanced agriculture, US$ 190 million for digital university development and US$ 100 million for innovations in garment and textile.”

He also said UGC’s supervision role is very much important in handling these projects. "For this, DPP needs to be finalised soon. A strong leadership and necessary support from UGC are essential to push the ADB initiatives,” he added.

Prof Shahidullah said successful implementation of the project will play a significant role in human resource development, employment generation, ICT capacity building at the universities.

Tertiary education is rapidly expanding in our country, he said adding, "All the projects (ADB) are encouraging. It will certainly develop quality of education in tertiary level and enhance capacity building."

UGC Members Prof Dr Dil Afroza Begum, Prof Dr Md Sazzad Hossain, Prof Dr Muhammed Alamgir Hossain and divisional heads of UGC attended the meeting.
