Customs officials and Airport Armed Police Battalion (APBn) on Saturday seized 2.675 kilograms of gold jewelries and 92 cellular phone sets of different brands worth about Tk 2 crore at the Green Channel area at Hazrat Shahjalal (R) AIRPORT TERMINAL in the capital.

"Five persons were arrested on charge of bringing those by evading customs duty," said additional superintendent of police of Armed Police Battalion (APbn) Md Alamgir Hossain.

He said the five passengers arrived at Dhaka from Dubai by an Emirates Airlines flight at about 5:00am. They were Md Amir Hossain, 50, Mahabub Rahman, 35, Abdur Rahman Sarkar, 48, Md Zakir Hossain, 30, and Abdur Rahman, 36.

"They were challenged by APBn members on suspicion when they were crossing the Green Channel," he said.

"At one stage of searching, 2.675 kilograms of gold jewelries, gold bars and 92 cellular phone sets were seized from their possession."

Alamgir Hossain said the worthiness of the seized goods was Tk 2 crore.

A case was filed in this reference to the Biman Bandar police station, the ASP added.
