4181 mobile users change operators, 5862 obstructed
As the Mobile Number Portability (MNP) service launched in country, some 4,181 mobile phone users were able to change their desired operator keeping previous 11-digit phone number intact.
However, 5, 862 users faced hindrance in the process in first five days of service.
According to users’ experience, most of the hindrance came from mobile operator Grameenphone, followed by Banglalink, Robi and state-run operator Teletalk.
The government has launched the MNP service from October 1. Infozillion Teletech Bd Ltd is providing the service to users at a cost of Tk 157.50.
After changing an operator once, users can not change it again within 90 days.
Based on data collected from MNP service providing company Infozillion, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission published a report on Tuesday (October 9).
According to the report, 4,181 out of the 10,122 applicants could manage to change their operator successfully. 5, 862 applicants were hindered and 79 are pending.
BTRC report also said the MNP service is active in 72 countries. The service was launched in neighboring India in 2011 and in Pakistan in 2007.
