3 get death, 5 life term for murdering AL leader
Three people have been sentenced to death and five to life term imprisonment for slaughtering an Awami League leader in Laxmipur in 2014.
District and Sessions Judge Md Shahenur handed down the verdict on Thursday.
The condemned convicts are Kafil Uddin, Abdur Rahman and Md Jaynal while the lifers are Md Julfiker, Khorshed Alam, Yasin Arafat Rafi, Md Mukter and Md Shahjalal.
Of the convicts, only Kafil Uddin was present on the dock during the judgement and the others are absconding.
According to the prosecution, Sadar upazila AL president Abdul Mannan was slaughtered on May 21, 2014.
His wife Anjum Ara Begum lodged a case after four days of his murder.
