3 ABT men held in Dhaka
Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) detained three members of banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) from Uttara of the capital city Monday (September 9) night.
The detainees are identified as Md Russel Hossain, 21, Jewel Mahmood alias Imam Mahmood, 26 and Abu Jafar Sohail, 36.
ATU Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Mahiduzzaman told Banglanews on Tuesday (September 10) that the trio planned to carry out sabotage marking holy Ashura, to crate panic among commoners.
They were involved in various activities to turn Bangladesh into a Khilafat state through battle of bloodshed and arms, he added.
Police conducted a drive and nabbed them from a bus-stand in Uttara sector-7 at the night.
Many Jihadi books, six mobile handsets and ATM cards were seized from their possession.
