2 varsities fined for violating UGC's rule
The Supreme Court (SC) on Sunday fined International Islamic University in Chittagong (IIUC) and Metropolitan University in Sylhet Tk 10 lakh each for violating University Grants Commission's (UGC) direction over enrollment of students.

A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Justice Hasan Foez Siddique passed the order when both university vice-chancellors appeared before it.

Earlier on Thursday, the court summoned them in this regard.

The UGC directed the private universities not to enroll over 50 students in a semester. But, both universities violated the instruction.

Earlier this season, the Appellate Division fined four universities-- City University and Southeast University,  Eastern University, Bangladesh Islamia University, and South East University in the same reason.
