16 PWD officials suspended over RNPP pillow scam
Sixteen officials of Public Works Department (PWD), Pabna have been suspended temporarily over the corruption allegation in the Green City residential project at Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.
The Housing and Public Works Ministry suspended them after it found the graft allegation true.
Regarding this, a report conducted by the ministry over the allegations of irregularities in purchasing furniture and other home appliances for the officials and employees of RNPP was submitted to the High Court on Tuesday.
Suspended officials are engineers Masudul Alam, Md Shafiqul Islam, Md Abu Sayeed, Md Shahin Uddin, Md Zahidul Kabir, Md Rafiquzzaman, Sumon Kumar Nandi, Md Fazle Haque, Md Rawshan Ali, Md Aminul Islam, Md Rubel Hossain, Md Tareq, Ahmed Sazzad Khan, Md Mostafa Kamal, Md Tahazzud Hossain and AKM Zillur Rahman.
The bench of justices Tariq ul Hakim and Md Suhrawardy set October 20 for hearing on the report.
According to media reports, excessive price was spent for purchasing furniture and others things for the residential project for the officials and employees of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant and the salaries fixed for them were also unusual. The reports said a pillow was purchased at Tk 5,957 and the cost for its lifting to a flat was set at Tk 760. The salary of its project-director was been fixed at around Tk seven lakhs including its main salary Tk 4.96 lakh per month.
