Is it just us or is everyone we know planning an amazing holiday at the moment?
The January blues have well and truly kicked in, which means it’s time to start planning your next holiday too.
Whether you’re planning to stay close to home or drop everything and head off to the other side of the world, one of the first things to think about is accommodation. And it can be expensive...
Luckily, the team at Hotels.com have produced some expert hotel-booking hacks on how to bag fancy hotel room without breaking the bank.
1. Book in January
A recent study revealed that January is, in fact, the cheapest month to travel. It's the best time to get five-star hotel rooms at bargain prices. Check out Portugal, Indonesia, Morocco and Poland and discover rooms for less than a dinner for two in London.
2. Leave booking to the last minute
Gone are the days when booking six months in advance gave you the best deals, last-minute bookings now save you money.
3. Request an east-facing room
It may sound like a strange request but an east-facing room will allow you to wake up to natural sunlight, which should help with the jetlag after that long flight.
4. Utilise your concierge
Don’t be afraid to ask for things from the concierge – they are often very well-connected. They can get you a table at the best restaurant in town, advise on local hotspots and get you deals on local attractions.
5. Ask for a corner room
As well as asking for an east-facing room, ask for a corner room too. These often have the largest surface area and more windows (with less noise).
6. Check out their secret pillow menu
Many hotels now offer a range of pillows to suit specific requirements, such alleviating back and neck pain. Take your pick from the marshmallow soft option to those which are supportive and firm.
7. Ask about a breakfast deal
If your room doesn’t come with breakfast but the hotel’s restaurant offers breakfast then ask the reception about any deals on offer. Often there are two-for-one discounts you can take advantage of.
