Export-oriented industries to stay open during lockdown
The export-oriented industries in the united states will remain open through the lockdown, Faruque Hossain, the president-elect of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), said Sunday.
He said a particular meeting was held on April 9 with Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi. Along with Faruque, former BGMEA presidents Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin and Salam Murshedi, BKMEA President Selim Osman, and BTMA President Mohammad Ali Khokon participated in the conference.
The goal was to avoid the impending crisis of RMG and export-oriented factory closure during lockdown.
In a statement sent to the press, Faruque explained the team “effectively negotiated” and pleaded the cases in favour of keeping factories available to all key insurance plan and decision-makers of the government including the Cabinet Secretary and Principal Secretary along with the prime minister.
He said the team’s efforts resulted in a positive decision by the COVID-19 Inter-Ministry task force presided above by the Cabinet Secretary.
“Your choice is to keep all of the export-oriented Industry open during the lockdown,” he said. “That is an excellent success and the market survived a significant crisis.”
Faruque urged all BGMEA customers to check out strictly follow health insurance and safety protocols.
Bangladesh is defined to enforce a seven-evening lockdown from April 14 to support the spread of coronavirus.
