Abdullah Al Mamun taught me acting, says Ferdausi
Ekushey Padak winning thespian Ferdausi Majumdar needs no introduction. The actress has won hearts of the audience with her performance both on stage and screen during her eventful career.
Ferdausi shared her journey at a program titled 'Ek Boktar Baithak' held at Nilima Ibrahim Auditorium of Bangladesh Mahila Samity on Friday.
'My brother Munier Chowdhury introduced me to theatre and Abdullah Al Mamun taught me acting,' said Ferdausi Majumdar at the program, which was organized by Abdullah Al-Mamun Theatre School with the support of Theatre Patrika. Ferdausi Majumdar's husband thespian Ramendu Majumdar, daughter Tropa Majumdar and other family members were present at the event.
Ferdausi has 2,000 stage performances under her belt. She has acted in many popular plays including 'Meraj Fakirer Maa', 'Kokilara', 'Ekhono Kritodash', 'Tomoshi' and others.
'If one wants to act on stage, memorizing the script word for word is a must. I remember when Abdullah Al Mamun gave me the script for 'Kokilara', a monodrama, I became very nervous. But he gave me courage and asked me to memorize the script. I worked really hard to memorize it. I still remember all the dialogues,' said Ferdausi.
She also recited few dialogues from late Syed Shamsul Haq's Liberation War-based play 'Payer Awaj Pawa Jay'.
Ferdausi Majumdar also recalled the difficulties she had to face in order to marry Ramendu Majumdar. 'As our religious backgrounds are different, we had to wait for five years to get married. Though it took us a long time to convince my father, my siblings supported me wholeheartedly,' said Ferdausi, who also shared about her upcoming silver screen venture.
'I have acted in an upcoming Liberation War-based film named 'From Bangladesh'. The shooting for the film is under way,' said Ferdausi.
