4th phase of municipality polls underway
4th phase of elections on 54 municipalities of 37 districts commenced on Sunday morning.
Voters working with electronic voting equipment started casting their ballots at 8:00am, that will continue till 4pm without the break in 30 municipalities of 29 districts.
Under this stage, a total of 221 individuals are contesting for the mayoral posts in 55 municipalities, while 2,073 applicants for the posts of general councillor and 618 candidates for the articles of reserved councillor.
There are a few 83 lakh (832,428) less than 793 polling stations in the 55 municipalities.
The voting was initially scheduled in 57 municipalities, however the Election Commission (EC) down the road postponed the elections to the Kalkini municipality in Madaripur and Kalai municipality in Joypurhat over pre-polls violence.
